WRIST PAIN

From an actual thank you card:

“Thank you once again for all of your help in fixing my sore elbow. I’m happy to report that I played my first pain free golf round in over a year last weekend. ”

WRIST PAIN?
HERE’S WHY YOU SHOULD CONSULT OUR TEAM AT MALONEY ELKASSEM WELLNESS…

While significant muscle tears, dislocations, bone fractures or arthritis must always be ruled out as the source of wrist pain, the vast majority of wrist pain comes from soft tissue injury or irritation. These types of wrist pain are usually the result of tendonitis, tenosynovitis, or carpal ligament capsulitis – any of which can be the result of either trauma (like sprains or muscle strains) or chronic, repetitive strain (like swinging a golf club, or using a computer mouse and keyboard).

There are several different factors that can contribute to these common problems. Inflammation, muscle spasm, soft tissue adhesion and fibrosis, mechanical joint irritation, carpal joint instability, poor workspace ergonomics, nerve irritation and muscle weakness are some of the more crucial factors involved with wrist pain. Often when prior treatment has proven unsuccessful, it may be due to not having one or more of these factors properly addressed.

Chronic wrist pain is often the end result of a vicious circle that starts with irritated or injured tissue. This leads to inflammation and muscle spasm, which in turn causes not only nerve irritation and pain but more importantly results in the formation of soft tissue adhesions. These adhesions scar-up the tissue and lead to dysfunctional soft tissues, which are more easily irritated or injured… and the whole cycle continues indefinitely.

In the case of wrist tendonitis or tenosynovitis, the inflammation and soft tissue adhesions prevent the smooth movement of the wrist tendons causing friction and further irritation, inflammation and pain in the tissues.

In the case of carpal ligament capsulitis, the ligaments or the wrist joint may be affected by inflammation, instability, muscle spasm or scarring (adhesions). Any, or all, of these four factors can alter the mechanics of the wrist joint, placing undue strain on the soft tissues of the wrist.

At Maloney Elkassem Wellness Center, we offer a wide variety of treatment options tailored to treat your specific problems, by tackling the wrist pain at its root cause(s).
